Barristar Productions began in 1987 with the idea of bringing a major trade show to Orange County, CA.
However, in 1992, the company shifted its focus to produce the industry’s first trade show ever, designed expressly for beauty school students. Students at that time were the ‘forgotten’ population of our growing industry. Barristar’s mission focused on the fact that students are the future of the beauty industry and needed the same attention, respect and education as their licensed counterparts.
Today, Barristar produces 5 different events a year, educating tens of thousands of students and, in addition, offers continuing education for instructors, which has become a highly popular addition to the show’s education roster.
Barristar’s mission directs it to work only with, or on, projects that bring value and benefit to industry students and help create a positive educational experience for them.
Paul Barry, president and co-founder of Barristar Productions, became a hairstylist in 1964. In 1966 he received his California cosmetology instructor license and also opened his first salon.
From 1971-1992, Paul owned and operated the largest salon in Orange County. During this time Paul traveled extensively for major product manufacturers including Redken, Clairol and John Paul Mitchell systems.
In 1987, tired of all the travel, Paul and his wife Georgia founded the company and together have produced numerous trade shows dedicated to bettering the cosmetology industry.
Today, Paul and his daughter Heather , continue working together producing the many popular and well-attended events for students and teachers throughout the year. These include:
SO Magazine recently did a feature story on Paul Barry and his work serving the industry, students, and teachers over the years.
